Tahoe Mountain Sports, in partnership with TerraCycle is excited to announce our newest recycling and sustainability initiative. We also want to give a big shout-out to TMS ambassador and Hoka professional trail runner, Helen Mino Faukner, for getting this program off the ground and helping us to make it a reality. 

As runners and outdoor enthusiasts, we know the importance of fueling up on the go. Gel packets, bar wrappers, and chew pouches are a staple for keeping us moving during long runs, races, backcountry ski outings, and other big outdoor adventures. But what happens to all that packaging when we are done? Too often, it ends up in landfills. 

That’s where TerraCycle comes in. TerraCycle has partnered with GU Energy Labs in an effort to reduce performance nutrition waste. These materials are transformed into new products, reducing waste and protecting the planet. Even better? Every wrapper you recycle through our collection program results in a donation to the Truckee Trails Foundation, helping maintain and improve the local trails we all love. 

Don’t worry, it's not just GU wrappers that are recyclable. You can bring in your packaging from all the nutrition brands we sell like Spring Energy, Honey Stinger, Tailwind, Muir Energy, Gnarly Nutrition, Skratch Labs, Tahoe Trail Bar, LMNT, Trailbutter, and all the other brands out there too!

Here’s how you can help: 

1. Save your empty gel packets, bar wrappers, and chew packaging (any brand works).
2. Drop them in the TerraCycle collection box at Tahoe Mountain Sports.
3. Feel good knowing you’re making a positive impact on the environment and your local trail system.
