Thank You to Our Winter Community Partners

Thank You to Our Winter Community Partners

Winter in Tahoe is better because of the people who show up for this community. As the snow starts to fly, we want to take a minute to thank the partners we're lucky to work alongside. Some of them keep us safer in the backcountry, some keep us moving and healthy, and some groom the trails we spend our mornings on. All of them make this a better place to ski, ride, and live.

Many of these partners also support our Free Avalanche Education Series. Our first one is Wednesday, October 21st, with special guest, Cody Townsend and we hope to see you there!

Sierra Avalanche Center

Sierra Avalanche Center is the reason we have a forecast to check before heading out into the snow. Their mission is to inform and educate the public about backcountry avalanche conditions in the greater Tahoe area, and their daily forecasts are a resource for skiers, riders, and sledders all winter long.

SAC is the beneficiary of our first event in the Avalanche Education Series, starting with our kickoff on Wednesday, October 21st. SAC Executive Director David Reichel will lead a backcountry basics refresher, Cody Townsend will give his talk on the Normalization of Deviance, and every raffle ticket supports the forecasts we all rely on. Doors open at 6:00 PM, and it's free to attend.

Tahoe Mountain School

Tahoe Mountain School teaches people how to move through the mountains with skill and good judgment. Their programs cover avalanche education, backcountry skiing, snow and rock climbing, and wilderness medicine, and their guides meet you where you are, whether it's your first tour or your next big objective.

Tahoe Mountain School is a sponsor of all of our avalanche education nights this season, and we're grateful to have them in our corner.

Valhalla Mountain Guides

Valhalla Mountain Guides is a Sierra-based guide service offering rock climbing, mountaineering, backcountry skiing, and avalanche education, with roots in the Sierra and trips around the world. Their AIARE avalanche courses and intro to backcountry programs are a great way to build skills with guides who care about teaching.

Thanks to Valhalla for supporting our avalanche education nights and for helping more people get into the backcountry the right way.

Alpenglow Expeditions

Based in Olympic Valley, Alpenglow Expeditions runs guided backcountry tours, AIARE avalanche courses, and their Backcountry 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 progression, which takes people from their first tour all the way to an introduction to ski mountaineering. Their AMGA-certified guides are some of the best in the business.

Thank you, Alpenglow, for supporting our avalanche education nights and for investing in the next generation of backcountry skiers and riders.

Tahoe Backcountry Radio

Tahoe Backcountry Radio is one of the best things to happen to our backcountry in years. Led by the Tahoe Backcountry Ski Patrol, the program sets up dedicated community radio channels for more than 20 backcountry zones around Tahoe, so groups can share conditions, coordinate on popular routes, and call for help when it matters. Look for the channel and privacy code on trailhead signs.

If you're touring this winter, it's a great idea to have a radio on you! Thank you to the volunteers who made this happen, and for joining us as a sponsor of our third avalanche education night, The Rescue this winter.

PT Revolution

PT Revolution is the go-to physical therapy and performance training clinic for mountain athletes, with locations in Truckee and South Lake Tahoe. They blend hands-on therapy with strength and movement training, and their Mountain Fit classes work for everyone from people coming back from surgery to people logging 60 ski days a season.

Thank you, PT Revolution, for supporting our avalanche education nights and for keeping this community healthy, strong, and on the mountain.

Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center

Tahoe Donner Cross Country has been grooming trails in Truckee for four decades, and it's still one of our favorite places to spend a morning. With more than 100 km of trails groomed for skate and classic skiing, plus snowshoe trails and lessons for every level, it's a locals' spot that also ranks among the best Nordic centers in North America.

Thank you, Tahoe Donner Cross Country, for supporting our avalanche education nights.

Royal Gorge and Sugar Bowl

Up on Donner Summit, Royal Gorge is the largest cross-country ski resort in North America, with 6,000 acres, six trail systems, and eight warming huts. It connects right to the Village at Sugar Bowl, so you can spend the morning on Nordic trails and the afternoon on the lifts, all from one place.

Thank you to Royal Gorge and Sugar Bowl for sponsoring our avalanche education nights this season and for keeping Donner Summit one of the best places to play in the Sierra.

See You Out There!

We're grateful to have partners like these in our backyard. If you're heading into the backcountry this winter, take the course, read the forecast, carry a radio, and come out to one of our avalanche education nights. If you're sticking to groomed trails, go say hi to our friends at Tahoe Donner, Royal Gorge & Sugar Bowl Either way, we'll see you out there!
