TMS Elevates the Sport of Disc Golf in North Lake Tahoe Region
The summer of 2014 will be a hot one for disc golf in North Lake Tahoe! The Sierra Tahoe Series, plus a prestigious Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) “A” Tier event, are the highlights for this summer’s lineup. The A-Tier event, King of the Lake, is back for the first time in several years with players from across the country competing for bragging rights and a huge cash or prize purse. North Lake Tahoe, a leading disc golf destination in the United States, offers some of the most beautiful courses in the world and is sure to both challenge and entertain players at an altitude of over 6,000 feet. In years past, the PDGA Sanctioned “A” Event has helped boost the Tahoe region’s growing interest in the sport of disc golf. Disc golf courses worldwide have more than doubled in the past decade and participation in the sport continues to grow at a rapid pace.
The Sierra Tahoe Series (STS) includes eight tournaments from Reno to Truckee to North Lake Tahoe to Markleeville. In its third year, the Sierra Tahoe Series hopes to attract even greater attention in the disc golf community through the use of top-notch courses coupled with incredible sponsors and dedicated organizers. “With the tremendous success of the Sierra Tahoe Series and support of the disc golf community, we are excited to offer the biggest year of the Sierra Tahoe Series yet,” said Reno Disc Golf Association President Skot Meyer. “We have seen unprecedented responses since this year’s events opened for registration, with many quickly selling out. We are proud to bring back one of the sport’s most popular events, King of the Lake, and add it as the crown jewel of the series. We are sure that the hard work and dedication of our team will yield a memorable year of great events, for both the players and the communities where they will be held.”
Tahoe Mountain Sports (TMS) has been instrumental in raising the profile of disc golf in the region. Through a cooperative agreement with the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association, TMS has been able to market the North Lake Tahoe region to disc golfers worldwide. Also, through the support of the Resort Association, North Lake Tahoe has been recognized as a vacation destination for disc golfers and continues to deliver on that promise. Between the Sierra Tahoe Series and the King of the Lake tournament, there is plenty of action for professional and recreational disc golfers in North Lake Tahoe in 2014!
