Giving Back to Our Community
Thanks to our sponsors Patagonia, Patagonia Provisions, Adventure Dining Guide, Snow Peak and Osprey Packs for helping to make this event possible. This event is in support of the Tahoe Food Hub, a local nonprofit focused on building a regional food system. They connect local farmers with restaurants, hospitals and schools so everyone has fresh food from a farm not more than 100 miles away.
Backcountry Nutrition
After a full day in the backcountry you want food that provides the right nourishment, gives you strength and tastes good. There are many options depending on how far and how long you are going. A good rule of thumb is to pack 1.5 to 2 pounds of food with 2,500 – 3,500 calories per day made up of complex carbohydrates and proteins. Nuts and dried fruits or canned tuna with crackers are great snacks. It’s also always a good idea to include food items that don’t need cooking in case your stove malfunctions.
Fresh foods are great for the first day or two of your backcountry adventure. For longer trips you’ll want to include dry foods like pasta, noodles, instant rice, soup mixes, drink mixes and dehydrated foods. We are here to help you plan and gear up for your next trip.
