The quick-draw laces are a breeze and make lacing up fast and easy. Laces might seem like a trivial part of a running shoe, but the way the quick-draw laces equalize the fit throughout the shoe is pretty slick. The tongue is adequately padded down low over the laces and slimmer at the top. This prevents any pinch points from the speed lacing system. 

Drop & Shoe Makeup:

The Dynafit Ultra Pro rocks a fairly traditional-feeling 8mm drop, which suits me well. The goal with this shoe was maximal foot protection with minimal weight. Dynafit accomplishes this using their SPEEDLITE midsole and the Vibram Megagrip outsole, which "offers 80% more protection" while still feeling light. As cushioning and protection increase, one often expects to lose responsiveness and 'feel'. The Dynafit Ultra Pro 2 does an exceptional job of walking that line between bulky armor and svelte alpine agility. That being said, I would still opt for the 100s for a more technical distance run.

While the Dynafit 100 remains my go-to day-to-day shoe, the Ultra Pro 2 is worth keeping on your radar for those longer distance runs and races when your feet demand maximum protection. I have been wearing the Ultras for most of the Oboz trail challenge this July, putting over 50 miles on them in just over a week. I have found the fit and protection to be top-notch and can’t recommend them enough!
