On Cloudmonster 3 Review: A Do-It-All Daily Trainer That Actually Fits Wide Feet
By Adam Broderick
The On Cloudmonster 3, a versatile, well-cushioned road trainer that handles everything from long slow miles to sprint sessions — and yes, it actually fits a wide foot without compromising.

Let me be upfront: I am not an easy shoe customer. I wear an E to 2E width, which means most shoes that claim to be "wide" are really just... slightly-less-narrow. For years I've basically lived in Topo and Altra because they're among the few brands that actually respect a wide foot.
So, when I tell you the On Cloudmonster 3 fits — genuinely fits — I want you to understand the weight of that statement. I grabbed the size 9 wide in black, half expecting to return them. I did not return them. Not even close.
Details:
Stack Height: 35mm heel / 29mm forefoot
Drop: 6mm
Weight: ~10.6 oz (men's US 9)
Midsole: Triple-layer CloudTec + Helion foam + Speedboard
Upper: Engineered mesh (recycled polyester)
Best For: Daily trainer, long runs, casual wear

Running along the Truckee River in Reno, Nevada
The engineered mesh upper has real give to it, and crucially, these stay wide enough for long enough through the forefoot — no narrowing corridor effect at the toe that I feel in most "wide" shoes after an hour. Midfoot lockdown is secure, heel counter is firm but non-intrusive, and I've had zero heel slip or lace bite across all my miles.
These are not supershoes. There's no carbon-plate propulsion blasting you down the road. What they are is a genuinely versatile daily trainer — comfortable on long, slow aerobic miles and still capable on shorter, faster efforts and sprints. The rocker sits right under the metatarsals, creating a smooth heel-to-toe roll that feels natural at any pace. Critically, it doesn't push up into the ball of the foot when you're just walking around, which is a problem I've had with other maximalist rockers. These feel normal off the run, too.

Casual or athletic; you choose.
"Sixteen hours loading box trucks and setting up barricade at a UTMB event. Then a run the next morning. These shoes didn't flinch."
I actually wear these as my daily do-it-all shoe — casual meals, nights out (they look good with jeans), and I even put in multiple 12-to-16 hour days as Venue Crew staff at the Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB in Auburn, CA, loading trucks and setting up metal barricade through the streets. The cushion held up, no hot spots, no complaints. If a shoe survives that and still feels like something I want to run in the next morning, it's doing something right.
